It is easy to find references to “performance” across Joint and U.S. Army doctrine. For example, JP 3-0 defines Measures of Performance and ADRP 7-0 describes the need to evaluate individual and organizational performance. These documents make it clear that assessing performance is crucial to military operations. Yet despite these many references, pinning down an overarching, operational definition of Soldier performance is no easy task.
