Atherosclerosis is a hardening and narrowing of arteries due to the build-up of plaque. It leads to coronary artery disease (CAD), which is the most common type of heart disease and the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. About 655,000 Americans die from heart disease each year, which is 1 in every 4 deaths.

Project Overview

Genomic and Proteomic Architecture of Atherosclerosis (GPAA) is a collaborative project which aims to comprehensively study the genomic and proteomic architecture of atherosclerosis and identify genes/proteins that are associated with the development of atherosclerosis. This work will provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and facilitate development of reliable methods for diagnostics and targeted therapeutic interventions.
