Mathematics and Biology Case Study #1: Search

Speaker: Dr. Michael Waterman; Q&A moderated by Christian Reidys, Division Director, Biocomplexity Institute

Abstract: The success of mathematics in revealing deep aspects of physics is well-known and justly celebrated. While the mathematics sciences are contributing to our understanding of biology, things are much less clear although there is much activity. This talk will use mathematical aspects of genetic database search in some detail to explore these connections.
