Vast amounts of data, generated through almost every aspect of living, offer an unprecedented opportunity to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life of our communities. These data, when integrated, tell the story of a community. However, the capacity at the local community level to store, manage, extract knowledge, and gain insights from data is one of societies great challenges.
Through bringing data in-service of the public good we are mobilizing a movement to democratize data and build capacity for community-based data-driven governance.
Achieving data-enriched local governance, where information is shared among community leaders, officials, and residents to inform evidence-based policy-making, is crucial for an efficient and effective democracy, and to enhancing people’s lives who might be under-served or don’t have the same opportunities as others.
